How to secure payments in online shop

Today we will discuss payments in online shops and possible dangers, which are trapping us in such a pleasant business.  I assume that if our reader attended that kind of site he had thought or even made an online payment.   So what kinds of cunnings trap us from Internet cheaters? For example, word “fishing” came into Internet use comparatively recently, but became famous for the process, when evil fisherman or group of them showers a bait and “catch” all “fishes” – the Internet users, who pecks,  in a rather simple way.  User, being in complete ignorance, that he is attempting only a complete copy of, well-known for him, online shop, starts entering his data for purchase, such as credit card’s number and some other things, so helpful for cheaters to realize their dirty intentions.
One logic question arises – what to do? Believe me, the purpose of this article is not to scare away you from online paying in e-stores, but to give you a helpful information in case if a) you entered an online shop and decided to get the pleasant good and b) you have got the good already, but found out that mythical transactions have begun to appear, I mean you are sitting in front of the television and calmly sipping bear in Riga at this moment, but in the same time somebody is buying a yacht in Maldives on your name and your credit card…  it’s time to think about it seriously!
Firstly, visiting online shop web page, which offers to pay for your purchase by credit card, pay your attention on some important things: how reliable for your own experience and opinion the shop is and how much you can trust it. Then investigate, how much the developers of the page have thought about your money’s safety:

  • if SSL protocol is used;
  • pay your attention on web page’s address. Look if the prefix https, where «s» means “secure”, is used on the page for entering information about your credit card. In the bottom of the right corner of the page there must be a symbol, which shows that SSL is used while you entering the necessary information.  But, be cautious, even if the prefix  «s» is in the right place, a message that certificate for this web page is not recognized and an offer not to load that page might appear;
  • are there any different services, for example the PayPal  service, if the seller disappears and in case if you insured your transaction, than you will get full return from PayPal;
  •  there are also new technologies, such as 3D Secure, which allow to secure the payments. If the sellers use 3D Secure, then you will see the logotype Verified by VISA and MasterCard Secure Code;

Remember, if something seems suspicious for you it’s better to refuse the purchase, then your money and, what’s more important, your nerves will be in safety.
In case if any «bad person» somehow has accessed to your money, do not panic, or maybe better panic, but before that immediately phone to your bank  and block your credit card, ask  about the procedure how your case is usually considered. Most likely, that you will be asked to write the detailed application and bank needs some time to detect where and how that operation was realized. One more, small, but really efficient operation – regularly look through the history of your payments and it will be much better if you are getting a message on your mobile phone about any transactions discharged from your account.

In a word – Be watchful and lucky purchases!
